Recently, a rumor has been circulating on social media that Telepass would offer a free year’s subscription to customers who express intent to cancel your contract to switch to another operator following a tariff increase. The situation seemed, right from the start, rather particular and strange: for this reason, let’s try to understand together whether this information corresponds to the truth, taking into consideration the official position of the company electronic toll.

Free telepass? The trick people talk about online

From the 1 July 2024, Telepass will increase the costs of basic subscriptions, which will go from 1.83 euros to 3.90 euros per month. This decision is motivated by the transformation of Telepass into a complete platform dedicated to mobility, which will extend its services not only to motorways, but also to urban areas.

It must be said, however, that this change was not welcomed positively by all customers, some of whom have started the cancellation process to move to new operators among which we can include MooneyGo and UnipolMove.

By contacting customer service on the toll-free number 800 904 940 to cancel, several customers have received a counteroffer advantageous: one year of free subscription if they decide to stay with Telepass. Many have wondered whether this information is true or false.

Real news?

The speed with which this news spread on social media led many to consider it an established fact, even if, in reality, it was based only on unofficial testimonies and never officially confirmed by Telepass as part of its promotions for customers.

After receiving several reports from readers, Fanpage.it dealt with the case, personally verifying the situation by contacting customer service with a subscriptionFamily‘, and again, a similar offer was made.

After carrying out these checks, the newspaper contacted Telepass directly to clarify the nature of these counteroffers. Telepass has clarified that there is no company policy that automatically provides for such offers when a customer decides to terminate the contract.

It is rather a strategy retention, assessed on an individual basis, without a pre-established defined duration and not formally institutionalized. This, therefore, makes us understand that there are no official promotions linked to a possible counter-proposal made to prevent customers from leaving the company to take advantage of any more advantageous promotions which, in fact, are not confirmed by the electronic toll company.
