all employee benefits

The credit per capita for the corporate welfare has grown a lot in the last year in Italy. According to data relating to 2023, on average an employee has approximately 900 euros per year of benefits from their employer, in various forms. However, the amount of these bonuses varies greatly, both for the sector considered and for the size of the companies.

In this kind of benefits This includes many services and goods that employees can receive from their employer. From company canteens to transportation to healthcare contributions, the categories include a wide range of benefits.

Data on per capita credit in Italy

The Welfare Observatory of Edenred Italia has published data on the trend of per capita credit in our country. This term indicates all those benefits that employees receive directly as part of their salary but which the employer gives in the form of a bonus for the purchase or use of particular goods or services. They are sometimes incorrectly called fringe benefits, which in reality are only a part of the total credit per capita.

On average, Italian employees receive 900 euros per year in credit per capita, around 80 euros net per month. But this figure varies significantly if two variables relating to the companies that provide them are inserted. The first is the sector in which they operate. Corporate welfare is highest in finance, with almost 1,700 euros per year, in professional services with almost 1,200 euros per year and in the real estate sector, where they amount to over 1,100 euros per year. However, manufacturing is below average, where an employee receives less than 700 euros per year.

The other factor that influences the size of these bonuses is the size of the companies. If on average 42% of employees say they receive benefits of this type, this percentage rises to 53% in companies with over 1,000 employees. The most benefits provided by companies overall are confirmed as: food stamps.

Pay slip benefits for employees

The main advantage a company has in providing benefits of this type to its employees is taxation. The credit per capita in fact it is not considered taxable, therefore they are not burdened by taxation or contributions. In this way the company can actually increase its employee’s salary by spending less than it would by simply adding that amount to the pay slip.

There are different types of company benefits. Social security, health and welfare contributions paid by the employer are part of this category, as are payments on the occasion of holidays. This also includes food provided by the company, whether in the form of meal vouchers or canteen service, collective transport for employees and shares offered as payment.

But the most important are the so-called fringe benefits, which have a limit of 1000 euros per year and can be used for the payment of household utilities, such as electricity, gas and water bills, for the rent of your home or for the payment of interest linked to a mortgage for the purchase of a house, even if this is made out to a spouse or family member of the employee.
