The Competition and Market Authority, better known as Antitrust, said it had sanctioned six car rental companies for having included some unfair clauses in contracts with customers, i.e. some particularly unbalanced conditions to the detriment of those who rented a car. machine. The companies involved are Avis, Hertz, Centauro, Green Motion, Noleggiare and Drivalia, which were fined a total of 18 million euros.

Specifically, the clauses concerned the payment of commissions to the companies if they received a fine relating to the rental period: in that case they directly charged the customer’s card a cost relating to the management of the matter. According to the Antitrust, these commissions are disproportionate for the activities that the company actually has to carry out, i.e. only transmit customer data to the body that deals with the assessment, while the payment of the fine remains the responsibility of the customer. The Antitrust also requested that such clauses be removed from contracts.
