Even if it costs more and more, you still have to respect the law: here’s how these criminals are stealing fuel and what happened after they got caught.

The fuel one is one of the biggest problems that motorists are facing in this historical period. In fact, it has been since the outbreak of the war between Ukraine and Russia, which took place in February 2022, that the cost of petrol suffered record-breaking surges. The situation became nothing short of tragic in the summer of 2023, when the cost of petrol exceeded 2 euros per liter several times.

It is for this reason that motorists today are in crisis and they have to find any way to save money when it comes to gasoline. There are many methods. For example, should you know that refueling in the morning, especially when it’s warmer, is the right way to save money? Or you should change your driving style if you realize you consume too much, why don’t you waste fuel by driving without braking or sudden acceleration?

There are also other methods that allow you to have more fuel, but not all of them are legal. In particular, today we are talking about a theft that occurred in the province of Rome: here’s what happened.

Fuel stolen, how did it happen

The dynamics were revealed by the police, who revealed how the theft was taking place. The thefts did not happen at the petrol station, but directly tapping fuel from trucks used to transport waste in the capital.

The scam occurs through “sucking” technique, that is, sucking fuel from the tank of a waste collection truck with a hose. This all happened at night, when the vehicles were left at the depot waiting to start work again the next morning.

How the story ended in Rome

What many have asked themselves, even after this story was picked up by various newspapers and also by well-known television programmes, is how was it possible that Ama (the company responsible for waste collection in Rome) didn’t notice anything.

For the moment, all is silent from the company. The problem is that this theft affects only Ama, but all taxpayers, given that we are talking about a public company.
