Cupra Formentor 2024: all the news

Cape Formentor is at the extreme north of the island of Mallorca, and is a cliff overlooking the sea with a splendid panorama, but which can only be reached through a good number of curves to be taken seriously. Not surprisingly, it’s called Formentor also the most successful model of Cupraa brand born in 2018 and which has become a market phenomenon for one independent styleespecially from the classic image of the sports car.

Formentor was created only for Cupra, it does not resemble other models in the Volkswagen group and it quickly becomes a modern classicso much so that in 2023 alone, over 120,000 units were sold in Europe, illustrating well the new customers who are looking above all in an SUV Coupé casual and fast image. In 2024 what it is arrives for Cupra Formentor much more than a restylingwith technical and technological innovations, advanced engines, electronically controlled suspension and a cockpit with a superior digital user interface. All this with an even more aggressive aesthetic. The arrival in dealerships is expected starting in Julywith prices yet to be defined.

The dimensions are intact at 445 cm in length, but extremely the front is more dynamicwith the logo moving from the center of the grille to the top of the hood, demonstrating a stronger character, also with LED matrix headlights available as an option. The effect is very strong, also thanks to the 18” or 19” alloy wheels and again to the side ribs which add a sensation of movement towards the rear band lights, with the Cupra logo illuminated in the centre. Technical innovations under the skin, with the MacPherson strut front suspension and rear multilink axle that can now be combined with the Dynamic Chassis Control system with different modes, with the driver able to precisely select the desired set-up. The entire driving dynamics of the new Formentor, starting from the steering and engine behavior, can be modified according to preferences, the different Comfort, Performance and Cupra driving profiles, but also Offroad for the all-wheel drive versions.

Cupra already has set the trend for research on materials and combinations in the passenger compartment. The 2024 Formentor adds a more precisely redesigned center console, copper-colored trim and a range of seat alternatives, with sport seats using fabric upholstery, while those can be upholstered in 73% recycled microfiber or eco-leather. It also changes the user interface of the car, improved in the name of simplicity both in digital cockpit behind the steering wheel than in the infotainment system with larger display, now 12.9” and with backlit cursor. Nuova Formentor then offers a optional high fidelity audio system with 12 speakers developed in collaboration with Sennheiser Mobility, with a total power of 390 watts and digital processing of the sound stage.

Cupra Formentor will be available with four different engine types, namely Tsi petrol, Hybrid with mild petrol system, Tdi to diesel and e-Hybrid of type plug-in hybrid, with powers between 150 and 333 HP. The entry variant uses the engine 1.5 liters with 150 HP gas paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Formentor is also available with an engine 2.0 liter petrol with 204 HP and all-wheel drive (4Drive) and 7-speed DSG dual clutch gearbox. The version mild hybrid still exploits the 1.5 with 150 HP, exclusively with the DSG gearbox, combined with a 48 V starter generator and a lithium ion battery. The edition also remains in the range 2.0 litres diesel Tdi from 150 HP with 7-speed DSG gearbox, but the focus is entirely on the two e-Hybrid versions with plug-in hybrid, from 204 and 272 HP for Formentor VZ e-Hybrid. Both are equipped with the new 1.5 Tsi petrol engine combined with an electric engine and batteries with a net capacity of 19.7 kWh, all for a zero-emission autonomy of 100km. There are two even sportier versions, with Cupra Formentor VZ 2.0 petrol from 265 HP front-wheel drive, with 7-speed DSG dual clutch gearbox. There is beyond Formentor VZ with engine 2 liter turbo petrol direct injection from 333 HP, 7-speed DSG gearbox and all-wheel drive with torque splitter technology. For this engine was developed an exclusive Cupra mode which includes a calibration of the pedals and gearbox optimized for the track, a high dynamic response of the torque thanks to the holding of the accelerator open, a light gear change indicator and the calibration developed by the Martorell Technical Center.
