On the occasion of Beijing International Motor Showunderway these days, marks the debut of the new one Smart Concept #5. It is a prototype that anticipates a further future evolution of the Smart range, a brand increasingly focused on the world of zero-emission SUVs and far away (even if the project could return in a new guise) from the iconic two-seater that made the Smart brand famous.
A spacious and versatile SUV
The new Smart Concept #5 was presented by the company as its vehicle more spacious and versatile never made. With this new project, which anticipates the creation of a series model, Smart announces its entry into the vehicle segment premium mid-size SUVan increasingly important portion of the market, especially as regards the zero-emission car market where the brand is achieving excellent results with models such as the new Smart #1.
The concept unveiled at the Beijing Motor Show has a marked off-road character which, in the series model, could only be offered with a specific set-up. The off-road look is enhanced by a raised ride height, specific tires and the presence of an all-wheel drive system, essential for this type of vehicle.

The Smart Concept #5 is the most unexpected and versatile car our brand has ever created”
Concept #5 therefore marks un new beginning for the House which, aiming at new market segments, intends to continue to grow and strengthen its position in the four-wheel sector. Adelmann continues: “With this vehicle we leave all borders behind and open a new segment for customers in Europe and worldwide“.
How the SUV is made
Smart has not released many details about the project. It is, in fact, a concept car that could see several changes compared to the production model. The starting point, however, is clear. The vehicle is equipped with a four-wheel drive with 800 volt technology and will be able to accommodate a battery pack capable of guaranteeing a capacity above 100 kWh (the series model will probably be made in multiple variants regarding the battery).
It should be noted that the architecture of the Smart concept fully supports the recharge quick. According to the data provided by the company, in fact, it is possible to bring the battery charge level from 10% to 80% in just 15 minutes, relying on a fast charging column. Also worth noting is an initial data on autonomy: the SUV will be able to travel over 550 kilometers with a full battery charge.
Also note the possibility to choose between five different driving modes, in order to adapt performance and consumption. Smart also confirmed the presence of a “advanced availability of ADAS“, without however going into details, and the navigation system Smart Pilot, usable both on the motorway and in the city.
