The succession, the merger but also the arrival on the stock exchange: nothing can be ruled out. Just under three months before his 90th birthday, Giorgio Armani spoke about the possible big changes for his fashion empire once he is no longer in charge in a long interview with the microphones of Bloomberg: “Independence from large groups could still be a value for the Group in the future, but I don’t feel like ruling anything out”.

The Milanese designer highlighted that what has always characterized the success of his work is the ability to adapt to changing times. At the moment Armani does not foresee an acquisition by a large luxury conglomerate, but at the same time he does not want to rule anything out a priori: “It would be an unentrepreneurial way to act”. Important words from those who give few, very few interviews, proving reticent in discussing succession.

Armani added that when it comes to succession the best solution would be a pool of people close to him and chosen directly by him: “This would also be the most strategic option, given the breadth of activities in which the group is involved. The foundation will decide and govern the future of the Armani group because the people closest to me are at the helm.”. As regards the listing in BagArmani stressed that it is “of an option that could be considered, hopefully in the distant future.”

In dialogue with Bloomberg, Armani said he doesn’t see a single person taking his place at the helm of the group. The designer recalled that he started alone with a small company and transformed it, piece by piece, into a group of international importance: “This also goes to the precious contribution of the collaborators I chose along the way.

The scenario now is very different than when I started, so I imagine more coordinated functions for those who come after me, which is much more efficient”.
