Even the month of July is not stingy with releases on the editorial front. The proposal is as usual varied, and alternates between very interesting first works, sequels, welcome returns and pleasant rediscoveries of the recent past. The award for most awaited novel goes to Memory by David Lagercrantz: The Swedish author, known for continuing Stieg Larsson’s ‘Millennium’ trilogy, contributing three more titles to the series, returns with a new case for logician Hans Rekke and policewoman Micaela Vargas. Lagercrantz’s is a crime series published in 30 countries around the world, inspired by the characters of Arthur Conan Doyle.

Einaudi focuses on crime, and does so with Murder in the parish of the successful series created by the Reverend Richard Coles, centered on the character of the investigator Daniel Clement. Intrigue and murders are also at the basis of The violence of the vanquished by Petros Markarīs: The Ship of Theseus focuses on yet another episode of the saga which sees Commissioner Kostas Charitos, his colleagues and his extended family protagonists of yet another intricate and complex mystery to solve.

It’s out July 5th from Bao Publishing Do not forget me, a granddaughter’s intense last journey with her grandmother. The graphic novel by the young Belgian cartoonist Alix Garin revolves around the illness of Clémence’s grandmother, who suffers from Alzheimer’s. Between memories that emerge with difficulty and the painful illusion that all is not yet lost, the artist compares two women of different generations, who tell their stories and give courage to each other.

It promises to amaze The Air Wizard published by Mondadori, imaginary biography of Philippe Petit, tightrope walking artist who 50 years ago, on 7 August 1974, walked on a steel cable suspended between the Twin Towers. The author, Mauro Garofalo, questions what drove Petit to climb up there, what thoughts and dreams occupied his mind and his heart while he was planning the undertaking. A coming of age, travel and adventure novel about a modern and enchanted hero.

Among other releases, Adelphi continues to publish the works of Matsumoto Seichō: after Tokyo Express, The girl from Kyūshū, A quiet place, The doubt e The Amagi Passit’s time to The wait, the portrait of a memorable dark lady and at the same time of a cynical and corrupt society. Tre60 of the Mauri Spagnol publishing group instead focuses on Frida Kahlo’s secret lovea novel in which Caroline Bernard (pseudonym of Tania Schlie) investigates the creativity, suffering and seduction of the great Mexican artist.

A long-awaited world premiere for Fazi: it will be released on July 9th Sirenssecond novel by Emilia Hart, Anglo-Australian writer, a real publishing sensation with her debut novel Weyward. This time, at the center of the narrative, two pairs of sisters separated by hundreds of years: a novel about female resilience that captures the power of sisterhood and the ineffable magic of the sea in a compelling story. Garzanti instead focuses on No clouds on the horizona novel by Rachel Lynn Solomon, a touching and intimate love story, steeped in romance.

Memory (Marsilio)

Claire Lidman has been dead for 14 years, but Samuel, her husband, has never wanted to accept it. When a photograph recently taken in St. Mark’s Square in Venice comes to light, his hopes are rekindled. In the foreground, a woman dressed in red who looks very much like Claire. Sure he can find her, he decides to ask Hans Rekke for help.

The cultured logic expert accepts the assignment, and alongside Micaela Vargas, a brilliant policewoman of Chilean origins, he begins to investigate. They both think there may be some truth in Samuel’s theory. For Rekke and Vargas, the search for Claire will involve a tiring return to the past, a real descent into their own personal abyss.

The Wait (Adelphi)

Isako has a bold plan: to get rid of her elderly husband, Nobuhiro, who has made the fortune of S. Optics with his inventions, within three years, and take over everything he owns. She can count on the fact that Nobuhiro is fragile of heart, but she must first extort a will from him that excludes the two daughters he had from a previous marriage.

Sex and money: nothing else matters to Isako. Seductive as she is, after all, she has no problem manipulating men: from her husband to the young man she takes to bed, the charming Kanji, to her ex-lover Shiotsuki, whose influential connections she exploits. For Isako, after all, they are just tools, expendable.

Frida Kahlo’s secret love (tre60)

New York, 1938. The time has finally come for Frida to hold her first solo exhibition in the United States as Frida Kahlo and not as Frida Rivera, thus emancipating herself artistically from the cumbersome figure of her husband Diego. The event is also attended by an acclaimed fashion photographer, Nickolas Muray: a strong attraction immediately sparks between the two, and Nick becomes her friend, lover and confidant. But Frida is married and must leave for Paris.

Frida, however, does not forget Nick, and her return to Mexico will not be easy: she will have to look inside herself and decide what to do, now that a man has entered her life who respects her as a woman and as an artist and involves her deeply.

Don’t Forget Me (Bao Publishing)

Clémence feels helpless in the face of the sudden acceleration of her grandmother’s loss of lucidity, as she continues to try to escape from the retirement home where she has been staying for some time. For this reason, her institute would like to sedate her, but Clémence thinks that if only she could reconnect her grandmother to her dearest memories, perhaps she would be able to make her feel better, to make her remember things that anchor her to reality.

Thus begins a journey that is much more complicated than expected, towards the house where her grandmother grew up. Escape, search for each other, get lost in order to have the chance to find each other again, or perhaps, simply, say goodbye? Alix Garin creates a delicate and bittersweet story, never condescending, full of expectations and hopes, that cannot fail to move.

The magician of the air (Mondadori)

On August 7, 1974, at 7:05 am, Philippe Petit with the help of some friends stretched a three-millimeter thick steel cable between the Twin Towers in New York. Suspended 417.5 meters above the ground, without any safety system, in the next forty-five minutes he makes the crossing between the two towers back and forth eight times.

But why did Philippe go up there? What thoughts, what dreams were burning in his mind and heart as he planned the feat?

Murder in the Parish (Einaudi)

Champton is the typical sleepy village of the English countryside. But when a boy is murdered on the altar of a deconsecrated church, the reverend investigator Daniel Clement is forced to put aside the village quarrels and deal with the crime.

Canon Daniel Clement is distressed by the idea that the parish is falling apart, by the feeling that his mother is hiding something from him, as well as by the constant discussions with the faithful. Furthermore, Chris Biddle, the evangelical pastor with whom Clement is supposed to collaborate, has arrived, even if, no matter how hard he tries, he can’t stomach it. The precarious balance of the village and the reverend are definitively shattered in the face of what appears to all intents and purposes to be a ritual murder.

No clouds on the horizon (Garzanti)

Ari’s life is full of smiles and optimism, but her childhood wasn’t easy. But the one who inspired her desire for sunshine was the charismatic Torrence Hale, a weather reporter for a famous Seattle station. Watching her on TV, all her life, she understood that trying to look at things from a positive perspective is the only way to give yourself the chance to be happy. And that’s also how she managed to get the job she’d always dreamed of, right next to Torrence Hale.

Yet, in reality things turn out to be very different from expectations: the climate in the office is terrible. And it is Torrence and his boss and ex-partner Seth, with their constant arguments, who bring discontent throughout the news editorial team. And so, Ari finds an ally: a colleague of his who deals with sports news. He too can no longer stand the atmosphere that has been created. Together they put together a plan that seems foolproof: to get Torrence and Seth back together.

The violence of the vanquished (The Ship of Theseus)

The director of the Attica police, Kostas Charitos, and his replacement as head of the homicide squad, Antigone Ferleki, find themselves having to face a new, thorny investigation. A university professor, who had attracted much dislike from students and colleagues, was killed in his office during a student demonstration that led to clashes with the police.

While the initial investigations focus on the victim’s students and those closest to him, a second murder shuffles the cards on the table for the investigators, opening up several unexpected perspectives. But the atrocious trail of crimes continues to grow, putting the intelligence and skills of the investigators to the test.
