Born from the idea of not losing the legacy of two fundamental events in the publishing sector – Artelibro, the Art Book Festival which took place in Bologna from 2003 to 2014, and FLAT – Turin Art Book Fair, an international event which the Piedmontese capital animated from 2017 to 2019 – BOOKSthe festival dedicated to art and artist books reaches its second edition and opens its doors from 24 to 26 May in the Sala delle Ciminiere of MAMbo – Museum of Modern Art of Bologna | Bologna Civic Museums Sector.
Edited by Danilo Montanari And Lorenzo BalbiBOOKS – which makes use of a scientific committee composed of Silvia Alessandri, Mario Diacono, Liliana Dematteis And Giovanna Pisces confirms, after the success of the first edition, its position in a lateral segment, although not strictly alternative to the phenomenon of fairs, with the aim of proposing, thanks to the book as mediumcontents and opportunities that facilitate direct relationships of knowledge and exchange between artists and collectors, without giving up a market vocation. 36 exhibitorsItalian and international booksellers and publishers in the sector will present for the occasion real art book projects: not stands, but in-depth tables focused on a limited number of titles, no more than 100 units for each. The setup is designed to encourage convivial exchange: an area will be located in the center of the Sala delle Ciminiere lounge which will host a series of talks with authors and collectors – among others also two moments with Luca Cerizza And Vincenzo Sparagna – around the exhibition focuses that will enrich the three days of the festival with stimuli.
Inside the Sala delle Ciminiere, exhibition focuses will also be proposed which intend to highlight the quality and historicity of Italian art publishing with a selection of editions and original works by Vincenzo Agnetti, Giovanni Anselmo, Alighiero Boetti And Ketty LaRocca which will be visible inside them thanks to the devices present on site. Among the volumes on display are: Light (Giovanni Anselmo1972 Sperone, Turin), Machiavelli30 (Vincenzo Agnetti1978, Guanda, Milan) e In the beginning it was (Ketty LaRocca1971, Centro Di Edition, Florence).
Andrea Pazienza in Bologna 50 years latera tribute that illustrates the artist’s creative journey with a series of original editions of books, magazine issues, record covers, posters and ephemera, enriches this edition of the festival together with the exhibition of some books by Mario Diacono protagonist of a video interview broadcast in the Sala delle Ciminiere.
BOOKS it will be the opportunity for the shop Anonymous Impressors (Via San Carlo 44, Bologna) to propose a demonstration of typographic printing with movable lead and wood type. The exhibition initiative is part of Bologna Estate 2024, the program of activities promoted and coordinated by the Municipality of Bologna and the Metropolitan City of Bologna – Bologna-Modena Tourist Territory.
