May of books: journey through illustrated books for children and meeting with the cartoonist and Comics teacher Andrea Serio

Reading is flying with books. It’s the title of review organized by “Jella Lepman” Library of Caselle in collaboration with the Musli – the School and Childhood Museum – la ORSO cooperative and the Pro Loco as part of the May of Books 2024.

From Tuesday 14th to Thursday 23rd May the exhibition is scheduled in the Collodi school (via Guibert 3/5). “Books traveling through history. Words and images in children’s fiction and popularization” with visits by appointment by contacting the Library.

«The staging of this exhibition was born, on the one hand, from the revision and reduction of the collections carried out periodically in the Library to update and increase its heritage – explains Paolo Roccohead of the city library -, on the other hand, from the collection of numerous books donated by readers. The acquisition and evaluation of numerous gifts received from readers have made it possible to come across books dating back as far as early years of the twentieth century. To enhance and make a significant part of this heritage accessible in an exhibition, research was started many months ago on illustrated books for children, with the scientific advice of the Musli.”

By visiting the exhibition it will be possible to travel a century of children’s booksknow and recognize the great authors of narrative of the past and the illustrations so different. There will be a section dedicated to popular booksand one ai school books of our grandparents and great-grandparents.

Thursday 16 May double appointment: at 9pm, again in the Collodi school, meeting with Andrea Serio, illustrator, cartoonist, teacher and artistic director of the International School of Comics of Turin to lead the public on a fascinating journey and tell how book covers are created and the importance of Images in books. Among his publications Seriously (Spaceman Project Editions, 2018), an anthology of the most representative works of almost twenty years of activity; Rhapsody in blue (Oblomov, 2019), graphic novel translated and published throughout Europe, freely based on the novel by Silvia Cuttin That would have been enough (Epika, 2011), on the theme – among others – of the racial laws of 1938; Gauloises (Oblomov 2021), with Igor Tuveri (Igort), a noir set in Milan.

At the same time from 9pm to 11pm it will be possible to admire the cartoon exhibition Of Giulio Gianolio for 37 years the “cartoonist” of the Pro Loco monthly magazine “Cose Nostre”.

Entrance to all events is free.
