Bari, the Lungomare di Libri event returns in July

The literary event which for the fourth consecutive year will transform the Apulian capital into a large open-air bookshop. The municipal council today approved the holding of the new edition of ‘Lungomare di Libri’. The event will see the presence of local booksellers and publishers, as well as a crossroads of meetings with authors from all over Italy, in the symbolic places of the city: in Bari Vecchia and along the Muraglia, from Largo Vito Maurogiovanni to Fortino Sant’ Antonio, up to Piazza del Ferrarese.

Lungomare di Libri, which will take place from 5th to 7th July, will reflect on the theme of ‘The memory of the sea’ as a narrative archetype: a metaphor of mobility, travel, adventure and migration and an opportunity to reflect on a series of dichotomies such as emerged and submerged, surface and abyss, fear and fun.

The event, which includes around 25 bookshops from the Bari area and over 30 publishers from Puglia, today represents a precious event for the promotion of books and reading and for the cultural and tourist development of the city, involving the local community and the many guests in a dense dialogue on books and emerging themes of contemporary literature.

The Turin International Book Fair is working on planning the fourth edition of Lungomare di libri, in which authors will return to Bari with their stories – explains Piero Crocenzi, CEO of Salone libro srl – It is always valuable for the Salon to bring its voice outside of Piedmont, involving booksellers, publishers and the entire publishing chain in occasions of debate for readers from all over Italy.“.

Lungomare di libri will enliven the wonderful historic center of Bari and its view of the sea for the fourth consecutive year. The sea, that space which is border and meeting, wonder and suffering, life and death, will be the common thread of the reflection that we will develop in the first weekend of July – comments Orietta Limitone, president of the Presidi del Libro – The Presìdi del Libro association, committed to promoting reading for over twenty years, brings its contribution to an event of international scope but strongly rooted in the territory, firmly believing in the need to keep the cultural debate alive. We do this through books, essential tools for fueling discussion and forming the consciences of men and women of today and tomorrow“.
