The appointment with the exhibition returns on Friday 3 MayBooks at the Museum‘, the initiative promoted by Roma Capitale, Capitoline Superintendence of Cultural Heritage which hosts the presentation of publications dedicated to the history of art, museology and cultural heritage in various museum locations.
Open to the public, the presentations involve authors and experts in the sector, keeping visitors up to date on news and the current debate. The presentation of the volume will be held at 5 pm in the Sala Tenerani of the Museum of Rome in Palazzo Braschi Theories of restorationfrom the Charter of Athens to today (Einaudi, 2023) by Orietta Rossi Pinelli.
Speakers during the meeting will include Ilaria Miarelli Mariani (Director of the Civic Museums Directorate of the Capitoline Superintendence of Cultural Heritage), Pietro Petraroia (School of Specialization in Historical-Artistic Heritage, Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, Milan), Pio Baldi (President of the Pontifical Accademia dei Virtuosi al Pantheon) and Federica Giacomini (Restorer and art historian). The author will be present.

This book reconstructs the theoretical positions of the main protagonists of the artistic and cultural debate on the methodologies and objectives of restoration in Italy starting from the Charter of Athens (1931), passing through the foundation of the Central Institute of Restoration (1939) and, therefore, for the lively conceptual and operational ferment that marked the decades following the after the Second World War, to arrive at some significant discrepancies that developed in the first two decades of the 21st century. The volume concludes with a look at the last two decades, during which conservative interventions have often been privileged over restoration procedures, which are inexorably invasive.
