The author: Mavi Ferramosca, born in Salento where she still lives, has been a teacher since 2001, cultural facilitator and supporter of the role of the teacher in training for a better future. She graduated in Philosophy from the University of Lecce and DEC – Management and Coordination of Educational, Training and Health Services – from the University of Tor Vergata, Rome. She specializes in Teaching Support at the Suor Orsola Benincasa University of Naples. She is the author of the essay “Climate and well-being in organisations. For a quality school” (Pluriversum Edizioni, 2020).
The illustrations: the drawings are by Bianca Rini, a little dreamer with a strong imagination and a great passion for drawing, while the graphic project is by Anova Project (Rivoli).
The book: The colorful illustrated book tells of an ancient legend that grandparents tell to their grandchildren; that of the “scazzamurreddhu”, a mischievous elf who, scampering here and there through the Salento countryside, invites anyone who decides to follow him in his wanderings to discover a “treasure”, the so-called “acchiatura”. In one of the evenings recounted, the presence of fireflies in the countryside of the past leads the reader to reflect on their slow disappearance, today linked to light pollution, which undermines the communication of these very particular insects, black by day and very bright by night. Night. Furthermore, the use of chemical products affects both fireflies and their prey, snails and snails, contributing to their extinction. A book for today’s children, with the hope that tomorrow’s adults will still be enchanted by a night lit by splendid fireflies. A QR code inserted in the volume is a magical surprise for little readers.
The workshop: The workshop activity “Let’s make fireflies” which accompanies the illustrated book involves coloring drawings of the beetles taken from the book and the use of golden colored glitter to make their light shine.
