Elyangela Giannoni’s new book “Connessione” is in bookstores

The new book by Elyangela Giannoni, entitled “Connection. Soul, animal, spirit, love from its origins to the twentieth century“, an accurate scientific research of a philological, glottological and philosophical nature aimed at tracing the path of words that have implications of a “spiritual” nature or that intend to express impalpable, abstract aspects or elevated states of consciousness of our human nature and beyond.

“The interest that gave rise to this research is aimed at the history of the words «soul, soul, animal» and their sister words «spirit, mind, heart, love». The path I followed starts from Giacomo Devoto’s Indo-European Origins and continues with a reference to recent philological and philosophical studies on the use of the terms animus, anima, mens in classical Latin.

In the history of the concepts of soul and spirit, a look at Christian Latin could not be missing, just as it was essential to refer to the texts of the New Testament in which the words, which in Italian sound like “soul, life, spirit” are used in a definitely significant.

Going back in time, I remembered, again with reference to these words, some poets of the Stil Novo, a passage from Dante’s Inferno, a minor work by Tasso and one by Leopardi.

Last but not least the subject of the present study is the presence of the words “soul, heart, life, love” in dialect poetic texts of the twentieth century, intended to be sung with musical accompaniment, or to be read and recited; The short collection also contains song lyrics in Italianto”.
