A party in black

Turin, 1935. The headlights of the Balilla Spider Sport cut through the darkness of the night. The fact that there is a woman behind the wheel might seem strange, but not if it is Anita. For months, in fact, he has been doing things that are inappropriate, not to mention disgraceful, certainly forbidden. How to postpone the wedding with Corrado just because of the desire to work. Or write, under the pseudonym of JD Smith, crime stories inspired by current events to bring a bit of justice where none no longer exists. A secret that he shares with Sebastiano Satta Ascona, director of the magazine Saturnalia. And to be honest, writing isn’t the only forbidden thing they do together… But now something has changed, and that’s the reason why Anita is in a car.

Someone has started following them, and it’s best not to joke with spies these days. Better to do what they ask. Even if it’s not right. Even if the requests threaten to overturn the peaceful existence of the closest friends: the wise Clara, the irreverent Candida, the sweet Diana, the charming Julian, the rebel Rodolfo and, obviously, Sebastiano. His Sebastian. Why do they live in such difficult years? Why can’t they trust anyone? Why don’t they stop attracting unwanted attention? Anita doesn’t have the answers, but the protagonists of the crime stories she has learned to love would urge her not to be afraid. Because danger is the spice of life. Yet, Anita is not used to running away. She’s not used to lying. Suddenly, she finds herself in one of JD Smith’s stories, and she doesn’t have the slightest idea how she’s going to end up.

I can not hear you

On one side Laura, Francesco, Nené and the other professors: explaining Ungaretti and the physics formulas in front of a screen, with the unstable network and the small black and silent icons that every now and then light up revealing crowded kitchens, messy bedrooms, annoying pets and siblings. On the other hand, the boys. They would never have imagined they would miss desks and blackboards, yet here they are: Basma, who at home is forced to cover herself with a veil and keep her mascara hidden at the bottom of her backpack; Rambo and Tommy, who fight boredom with challenges; Kevin who takes the dog for a walk and always ends up there, in front of the closed gate, dreaming of a trip that will never happen. Life is on pause but, between furtive WhatsApps and hacked lessons, graduation arrives anyway and the school – precarious and shaky, today as always – does what it does best: weaves together destinies and binds them together, giving everyone a great desire for the future.
