May of books 2024 / Events / News / City of Monopoli
Descriptive text here

On the initiative of the Culture Department of the Municipality of Monopoli, the “Prospero Rendella” Civic Library joins for the seventh consecutive year in the reading promotion campaign Il Maggio dei Libri, now in its fourteenth edition throughout the national territory and promoted by the Center for Book and Reading and by the Ministry of Culture.

The theme of the campaign, which begins on April 23rd (World Book and Copyright Day) and ends on May 31st, is If you read you lib(e)ri, demonstrating the fact that among the many opposing freedoms it grants the exercise of reading, there is one that does not foresee opposites or inversions: that of thinking.
The initiatives were inspired by three thematic threads – Lib(e)ri to know, Lib(e)ri to dream and Lib(e)ri to create – to stimulate the habit of reading, considered a key element of personal growth , cultural and social, an instrument of knowledge and awareness, capable of making us authentically free.

Inspired by the theme of the campaign and its constant openness towards the community, Rendella leaves its usual spaces and is directly involved in the territory to promote and develop open and inclusive relationships between the library and its community by proposing public initiatives, workshops dedicated to small users of the library, meetings for schools and, also this year, we intend to pay particular attention to new users who, for various reasons, rarely frequent the Library, involving the “Centro Arcobaleno” Association, the “Seniors” Cultural Association ” of Monopoli, the Pediatrics department of the San Giacomo Hospital of Monopoli and the communities residing in the Contrade Antonelli, Chapter, Lamalunga, L’Assunta and S. Lucia.
