At Carlito’s Bistrot, many are reading

“When we thought about the Reading Party we didn’t imagine all this energy in getting together with so many people and reading in silence”.

THE FOGGIA READING PARTY. This is the comment that follows the unusual and precious event that took place on Wednesday 24 April at Carlito’s Bistrot in Piazza Federico II, in the historic heart of the city. An all-Foggia reading party organized along the lines of those that have already been held around the world for a few months, especially in New York, where it was held for the first time. More or less unknown people who reach a place – in this case a club – and decide to do two very simple things: turn off their cell phones and read a good book.

SOLD OUT. “An experience – we read again on the social networks of the organisers, the Possibili Scenari and Civil Libertà associations – which represented a moment of profound connection with words and ideas, enriched by discussion and the sharing of different perspectives”. An unexpected sold-out, with around forty readers who decided to share the same moment of reading in the late afternoon.

THE NEED TO DO IT AGAIN. “In addition to the evening itself – said Antonio De Sabato, one of the creators, with Alessio Lusuriello, of the event – it was nice to introduce ourselves and talk to many people starting from a book, as happened at the end of the hour of reading. Furthermore, interesting proposals were put forward, such as organizing guided reading moments, sharing passages, reflecting on the meaning of one or more books… But above all, the need to do it again emerged, even once a week… We don’t know if we will be able to do it every week, but we will certainly propose it again, perhaps on a monthly basis.”
