For eleven years the photographer and writer Peter Hince he lived his very personal dream: chief roadie of the Queenhad free access to the backstage of some of the most important moments in the history of music, always alongside the British band while Freddy Mercury and mates recorded, toured and frolicked around the world.

Thanks to QUEEN UNCOVEREDfinally also available in Italian with translation by Simona Garavellihas decided to disclose an extraordinary archive of private photographs and rarities, mostly unpublished, which show what life was like alongside what was one of the greatest rock bands of all time.

With more than 500 photographs, memorabilia and memories, the book opens the doors to the author’s exclusive and boundless archive, recounting his time at the pulsating rhythm of rock history. The collection shows the band at work, at rest and having fun: on tour, in the recording studio or during the filming of their most iconic videos, at parties and in quiet moments away from the scene.

Accompanied by unpublished personal memories, stories and exclusive testimonies, the book gives life to the special portrait of a band without equal, from the privileged observation point of those who have followed their movements for over a decade, sharing joys, difficulties and most intimate moments.

The book is also present in the bookshop of QUEEN UNSEEN – the most important Queen exhibition set up in Italy – currently underway in Milan at the Luciana Matalon Foundation (Foro Buonaparte 67) and scheduled until 5 May 2024.

“I couldn’t say why, but at Queen’s last show at Knebworth, in August 1986, I had a feeling it would be their last. And so it was. Freddie always said that he would never become a parody of himself, huffing and puffing around the stage in ridiculous clothes when he was no longer as lean and agile as he once was. Not being able to give his all, he would have retired with good grace. Which he did.
Many people ask me what Fred would have done if he were still alive. I say it would have been whatever he wanted to be, and music would definitely have been a part of it. Perhaps continuing Queen’s projects or perhaps through other collaborations. Or composing film scores or a solo album of classics in a different style, just him and the piano. Or maybe he would return to his art, painting and drawing.
Whatever he chose, it should have fascinated and intrigued him. Freddie had always surprised everyone, and I have no doubt that he would continue to do so.”
