The presentation tour of “She’s A Woman – Stories of courage, pride, love and (dis)honor of 33 queens of music” (Rizzoli Lizard), the new book by the writer and music journalist Ezio Guaitamacchi with the preface by Gianna Nannini. The author will present his new book on Monday 22 April, at 6.30 pm, at the ELI bookshop in Rome (viale Somalia, 50) with the participation of Carlo Massarini. Free entry while seats last.

Since May, distributed by Ponderosa Music & Art, “She’s a Woman” becomes a show of stories, sounds and visions, an evocative journey into the lives and songs of 12 Queens of Music, written, narrated and played by Ezio Guaitamacchi. On stage with him the formidable voice of Brunella Boschetti, the artistic talent of Andrea Mirò and the special participation of Ivan Cattaneo in the triple role of singer, videomaker and “witness” of fantastic encounters.

In “She’s a woman”, Guaitamacchi tells the stories of 33 (like the spins of a vinyl record) of the most iconic queens of music, women full of courage, pride and political awareness, who were able to represent the strength of thought, of feeling and sensuality in a world, that of pop rock music, where machismo has always reigned. The author guides the reader in the stories of these protagonists who faced challenges, overcame obstacles and left an indelible mark, revealing previously unpublished details, the result of research and private conversations, and enriching everything with suggestive images.

The book is made up of 5 sections: “Respect – Courage and emancipation” with the stories of artists such as Patti Smith, Joni Mitchell, Annie Lennox, Beyoncé and Madonna, “People have the power – Political commitment” in which, among others, there are stories about Joan Baez, Billie Holiday, Sinéad O’Connor and Nina Simone, “Piece of my heart – Love and sex” which delves into the lives of superstars of the caliber of Courtney Love, Janis Joplin, Yoko Ono, Nico, Sheryl Crow and Édith Piaf, “I will survive – Violence and abuse” with the story of the dramatic events that have marked the stories of singers such as Tina Turner, Lady Gaga, Whitney Houston, Donna Summer and Amy Winehouse and, finally, “Gracias a la vida – Cultural pride” in which the figures of authentic “cultural ambassadors” such as Miriam Makeba, Mercedes Sosa and Noa are explored.

For each story, two ad hoc songs were selected which, thanks to a QR code, can be listened to, thus becoming the ideal soundtrack for each story.

Ezio Guaitamacchi, musicologist, musician and entertainer, is a doyen of journalism and music criticism. Author of twenty-five essays on rock and its surroundings, he is a radio and TV host, teacher, musician and storyteller. He founded two specialized magazines, directed three publishing houses and created Jam TV, which he has been at the helm of since 2016. He has worked for Rai, Mediaset, Telepiù, Lifegate and Rsi, creating and hosting his programs. For Fabbri he edited the series “Le Regine della Musica” and, from 2001 to 2011, he was artistic director of Just Like a Woman, an international festival dedicated to female artists.
