Susegana: Books in the Cellar – Publishing Event in Veneto

Libri In Cantina 2024 is LentaMente!

“Is it necessary to go so fast? Do we really need so many things to be happy?” Luis Sepúlveda from: Story of a snail who discovered the importance of slowness

Spotlight all on “Books in the Cellar” which this year reaches an important milestone: the famous event dedicated to small and medium-sized publishing is celebrating its first twenty years. The appointment is at the San Salvatore castle in Susegana (Treviso), in 5 and 6 October 2024.
Such an important birthday certainly deserved some reflection. Hence the turning point and the significant change of pace, in the name… of slowness.

In fact, the 2024 edition headlines “Slowly” and aims to revolutionize the Treviso festival. After all, 20 years have passed in a flash. They have been 20 years full of meetings with publishers and authors, presentations of books and projects, research, culture and territory. The event reached its twentieth edition so quickly that it seemed necessary to everyone… slow down. The guys at Libri in Cantina were visionaries already 20 years ago. The event had bet on small publishing, which has always been a niche sector. Dedicating resources, energy and ideas to cultural production. A bet won, even though it was not at all a given. The book, however, resists. Becoming the undisputed protagonist of the cultural offer of our territory.

So what do you propose differently?
Few meetings with the authors but all of the highest level and with more time.
Like for example the one with Franco Arminio, poet and landscape expert, which will stop on the very green holm oak terrace of Palazzo Odoardo. Who better than Arminio could be the witness for this change of pace of the festival? Arminio, like a diviner, has always sought the vein in which words full of meaning and light still flow. His verses offer themselves as an opportunity to open our hearts to wonder, they sing about the importance of paying attention to the tiny to feel part of the immense. The author has made his flag of his love for his country (Bisaccia, in Irpinia), which he never left, remaining and resisting in the face of depopulation, founding paesology, an ethical discipline that teaches to love the landscape. Even the internal one.
As well as Matteo Saudino, creator of Barbasophia, a place of virtual dissemination that combines the author’s two most evident peculiarities: the beard and philosophy. Saudino teaches history and philosophy to children and writes books. To tell us about serious things but with brilliant surges that remove history from the dust to transport it into the contemporary.
Writer, YouTuber and activist, Saudino tests tools and refines brains to think about society, politics, institutions and education, rights and social justice, because “do philosophy – as he always repeats – It’s an act of rebellion.” read the rest of the article”

And even new collaborations with partners already friends of the exhibition: the Benetton Foundation studies and research for a qualified look at the landscape. And with the Stepan Zavrel Foundation, an international school of illustration, with the suggestions of the imagination.

So what to expect?
Not the usual bulimic festival where we move from one theme or author to another. Not the usual presentation then, but a day chatting under the holm oak, drawing in a meadow, thinking while looking at the landscape, listening to music. Long meetings that satiate the spirit.
Slow presentations that create an appetite for knowledge, make us hungry for books, greedy for stories. But also about walking. With your nose in the air, looking at the sky, immersed in the greenery of our hills: a place that seems to come straight out of a fairytale book.

Today everything is fast: culture is consumed and often not savored, we are in contact with the whole world and in relationship with no one. We really need to slow down.
LentaMente proposes a different rhythm, to give the soul time to reach us. Because thought needs time: to leave room for imagination; to fully enjoy the words.
But also to contemplate the landscape, to listen to the silence, to smell the scents. To stay human.
