Another three penalty points for Trapani, in addition to the 5 already imposed on the Sicilians at the start of the championship. This was decided today by the Federal Court, which also inflicted a two-year ban on President Antonini. The already tense situation between the institutions and Trapani was further aggravated when the sporting director of the Sicilian club Valeriano D’Orta, at the end of the home match against Varese, in relation to the well-known issue of non-payments with consequent penalty points, had threatened: “Unsustainable situation, Legabasket and the Italian Basketball Federation are carrying out a clear injustice and persecutory act towards the club. We are considering not showing up in Bologna the next week.”

Immediate reaction from Fip and Lega yesterday: “The Federal Council, which met today in an extraordinary manner, regarding the position of the Trapani Shark club, in sharing the firmness with which the Federation has handled the matter so far, aimed at demanding compliance with all the rules of participation in the top championship, excluding any rhetoric of ‘persecutory intent’, also unanimously agreed that the behavior adopted by the Club is seriously damaging the image of the entire movement, and gave the Federal President has a broad mandate to identify and implement any initiative, including of a legal nature, useful for its protection. The Federal Council has also invited the Lega Basket Serie A to take any intra-association decision aimed at preventing the credibility of the top championship from being further placed in serious and serious crisis”.
