Sgarbi ready for the hat trick

FERMO – The works of Antonio Ligabue And Joseph Pendand will continue to attract art enthusiasts until June 2nd. The extension of the two record-breaking exhibitions was announced yesterday, during the presentation of the two catalogues, by the curator Vittorio Sgarbi, who in turn announced a future third exhibition on the Venetian painters who left traces in the Marche and Fermo.

The exhibitions

Record-breaking exhibitions because in the last four days alone there were 2,800 visitors to the museums and therefore to the two exhibitions. And if you look at the numbers of the individual days you understand its significance even more: 784 on April 25th, 611 last Friday, 621 and 716 respectively on Saturday and Sunday. And now, as announced by the mayor Paolo Calcinaro, «the public will have another month to admire the strong sensations that come from Ligabue’s paintings and Pende’s masterpieces, which have aroused considerable curiosity among the visitors who have focused a lot on the artist from Fermo ». This year’s high-level exhibitions, as it was for the 17th century painters in 2023. A collaboration, the one with Sgarbi, which certainly wasn’t born yesterday.

The commitment

Mayor Paolo Calcinaro in fact recalled it: «On the occasion of the Rubens loan I found myself talking on the phone with Sgarbi to whom I asked for a hand in promoting our beauties, from there it all started. Initiatives like these are very useful for municipalities, events that are not concentrated just in an evening or two, but which last several months. There are not many resources available for municipalities, but with events of this type we attract many more people, we will continue to do them.”

The proposal

Calcinaro did not specifically mention it but, most likely there will be a new exhibition. With Sgarbi who will return to have his say in Fermo. «I have been to Fermo many times in 50 years of frequenting the Marche – said the professor – I am an honorary citizen of the Marche, I have curated several exhibitions in the region, in Ancona one, recently extended, at the Mole. The love for beauty can move the people of the Marche region, in Ancona I will do another one in 2025, next year we will understand how far the Adriatic route has come from Venice, bringing great artists, some also arriving in Fermo, who have influenced the Marche painting, like Vincenzo Pagani or Jacobello del Fiore”. So far Ancona, but as far as Fermo is concerned, there is a connection with the future exhibition. In fact, Sgarbi said: «The proposals made up to this moment have brought enthusiasm. For the next season in Fermo I plan to bring, even before Ancona, the Venetian painters who arrived in the Marche, who left their testimony and also in Fermo. I don’t think there will be many works, but a few masterpieces that will tell the story of the experience of these Venetian painters.” First, however, there is still a month for the exhibitions of Pende and Ligabue, the catalogs of which were presented yesterday by Sgarbi himself, who also recalled the pictorial peculiarities of both artists. Two somewhat hidden painters, but who attracted, it was said, visitors in numbers, said the Councilor for Culture Micol Lanzidei, «mind-boggling. We are trying to exploit this cultural vitality to promote the assets, to promote the city. We work to organize a relaunch and development strategy, good public-private work can help put culture at the center and bring life to museums. I also thank the sponsors for this.”

The association

Not only that, the associations also remained involved. In particular Mus-E which brought school pupils to see the exhibitions. «They took inspiration – said the president Enrico Paniccià – to create works. We auction them off to raise funds to eliminate differences between pupils. Last year we created an extra class, we will do it again this year.”
