“The statue of Indro Montanelli, in the public gardens that bear his name, has been vandalized again by some idiot who thinks he can tarnish his memory with colored paint.” He reports it Samuele Piscinaprovincial secretary of the League and City Councilor of Milan in a note.
Inside the park that bears the journalist’s name, the statue was covered in purple paint with handprints above the plaque on the base. “The do-goodism of the left towards eco-vandals – added Piscina – has as a consequence these continuous acts of vandalism throughout the city. Milan deserves respect and those who deface it should pay dearly and not be pampered. Instead, on several occasions the bronze statue is been cleaned up at the expense of the Milanese through continually increasing taxes and tariffs thanks to the same left that governs the city”.
“We ask Mayor Sala once again to put an end to his silence in the face of these continuous abuses. Milan deserves a Mayor who does not let this type of action go unpunished”, finally concluded the provincial secretary.
Already in 2020 the statue had been vandalized with red paint and phrases written in black covering the entire plaque with Montanelli’s name.
FdI, “More vandals against Montanelli, the park must be guarded”
The statue in Milan of the journalist Indro Montanelli “is constantly threatened by improvised feminists and groups who ardently support cancel culture, as happens in the United States of America against the figure of Christopher Columbus. Faced with this latest episode of vandalism it is necessary to guard the park and the entire area. The council condemns the gesture: just tolerate those who vandalize the monuments in the city.” Thus in a note the head of the FdI-Ecr delegation to the European Parliament, Carlo Fidanza, and the FdI city councilor in Milan Francesco Rocca.
“Today is not the first episode of damage: four years ago we rolled up our sleeves and cleaned the monument, condemning the vile gesture carried out during the night” – they add – “It is not possible that Montanelli’s statue is cyclically covered in paint and that the costs of cleaning it up fall on the shoulders of the citizens. We are in the center of Milan and this laxity on the part of the Municipality is intolerable.”
