BYD unveils a new crossover: it has everything to make a splash, including the price

The Chinese company BYD, a leader in the production of electric cars, has a new model in the pipeline. Some features have already been made known

Many European manufacturers agree on the fact that among the Chinese car manufacturers the most “dangerous”, for any Western rival, is BYD, Chinese brand that last year achieved record numbers in the production and sales of full electric models.

According to data reported by Inside EV, BYD she got very close to Tesla saleslast year, with around 1.5 million cars sold worldwide compared to 1.8 for Elon Musk’s brand. An enormous growth that really makes you think about how the Chinese brand is now a top-level competitor on the market.

One of BYD’s peculiar characteristics is to give names of marine animals to its electric cars. So, we have the BYD Seal, the Dolphins, and now, a new midsize crossover on the way. Presented at home, this medium has already conquered everyone and even Western observers can’t wait to find out more about it.

BYD, the “Seal Lion” arrives

The latest model is called BYD Sea Lion 07 and presents itself as a crossover coupé with a sleek and aggressive appearance. The car is not exactly a featherweight with a length of 4.8 meters and a very spacious interior. On board, we find five seats, a sixteen-inch monitor for the main infotainment, a Dynaudio stereo system and optional heating systems for the seats which, apparently, will be in leather or in any case in a fabric very similar to it.

The car was born on the E-platform 3.0 platform created specifically for SUVs and boasts a single or double engine system that is somewhat reminiscent of the one available for the CYbertruck. You can choose between two single 231 or 313 horsepower engines or a complex of two 530 horsepower electric motors. In all cases, the maximum speed is electronically limited to 225 kilometers per hour to maximize autonomy.

The car will have super technological equipment which we will soon know more about, together with autonomy data which are still missing. The price, however, is already clear, at least for the Chinese market on which the car will debut shortly. We are talking about around 25 thousand euros at the exchange rate, a very low figure for an SUV of this type which, if kept on the European market, would make the Sea Lion one of the cheapest crossovers on sale.
