On 27 April 18 years ago, at 08:50 – 06:50 in Italy – along a road south-west of the town of An Nassiriya, a patrol of the Italian contingent made up of four protected vehicles of the MSU Carabinieri Regiment ( Multinational Specialized Unit), with an Army officer on board, 15 soldiers from the Carabinieri and a graduate of the Romanian Military Police, was involved in the explosion of a bomb placed in the center of the road.

The convoy was on its way to the PJOC (Provincial Joint Operation Centre, the integrated operations room of the Province’s security forces) where the soldiers involved in the attack should have carried out their regular service for the usual coordination activities with the local security forces in controlling the territory. The vehicle hit suffered limited external damage, while the interior was completely destroyed by the explosion, the flames of which enveloped the soldiers. Among these, the Marshal Carlo De Trizio, 37 years old, active at the Rome Radiomobile Unit and originally from Bisceglie, who had been in Iraq for only 13 days.

Today, in the presence of the Mayor of the city Angelantonio Angarano and Brigadier General Ubaldo Del Monaco, Commanders of the Carabinieri Legion “Puglia”, and of all the civil and military representatives of the BAT province, the ceremony commemorating the 18th anniversary of the BAT was held. tragic death of Marshal Adjutant of the Carabinieri Carlo De Trizio, died on 27 April 2006 during the mission “Ancient Babylon” in Iraq, near Nassiriya. Since 10 July 2009, the barracks of the Carabinieri Tenenza Command in Bisceglie has been named after him in his memory.
