SAN GREGORIO FIRE UPDATE, VIDEO
The health conditions of a 79-year-old from San Gregorio nelle Alpi, Giovanni Andrich, are very serious, as he was injured this morning in the explosion and subsequent fire in a farmhouse from the early 19th century in the hamlet of Fumach, just under a kilometer from the town center. The explosion shortly before 7.30 was probably due to a gas leak. The alarm went off at 7.25am at the Suem 118 and fire brigade stations. Giovanni Andrich was brought to safety by a neighbor who heroically entered the house and carried out the elderly man who had widespread burns all over his body and a wound on his face.
The medics of the Suem air ambulance that arrived from Treviso and those of the ambulance from the Feltre hospital found the 79-year-old lying in the garden; the elderly man was intubated and transferred to the major burns center of the Padua hospital.
The fire brigade teams that left from Belluno and Feltre, with the support of volunteers, worked for a long time to contain the fire and to make safe what remains of the completely destroyed house.
Once the operations have been completed, which are expected to continue into the afternoon, the firefighters will carry out the necessary measurements to reconstruct the dynamics of the explosion, the origin of which there is no doubt. The Feltre carabinieri and municipal technicians also arrived in Fumach.
