‘My street in bloom’, the ancient village of Bitonto is colored

The desire to create beauty and make the historic center of Bitonto a flowering village has infected everyone. There are fifteen streets that have joined the competition launched by the association ‘Le Strade dei Fiori’, led by president Michele Castellano, and sponsored by the Municipality of Bitonto. From the central Piazzetta Fratelli Bandiera, off Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, up to Corte Santa Lucia, passing through the already renowned Corte della Lucertola, Via Sant’Andrea, to also discover the new entries Via del Sasso, Via S. Antuono and Corte Auricarecta, balconies and alleys have proudly displayed the number reporting their participation in the ‘My street in bloom’ competition.

Many townspeople, from the oldest to the youngest, have worked, at their own expense, to create alternative vases, small artefacts – including bikes, trains, giant hearts, wheels and colored windows – using poor or recycled material , transforming the streets into floral works of art. To give all citizens the opportunity to enjoy this wonder, the ‘Le Strade dei Fiori’ association has organized a walk through the fifteen streets, scheduled for Friday 10 May at 6.00 pm from Piazzetta Fratelli Bandiera (meeting point Gran Bar Conte – Corso Vittorio Emanuele, 17). “A route lasting 27 minutes, for one kilometer and 800 meters – the association specifies – suitable for everyone”.

For the occasion, the jury will also be present, composed of the mayor Francesco Paolo Ricci, the president of the “Le Strade dei Fiori” association Michele Castellano and representatives of the local media: they will evaluate the creations taking into consideration criteria such as architectural impact, originality, artistic imagination, quantity of plants and love for flowers. The most beautiful street will be named the ‘X Street of Flowers’ on May 11th, at 5pm, in the Episcopio of the Cathedral, and other prizes offered by the partners and sponsors of the competition will be awarded.
