In just 27 minutes the Xiaomi SU7 received 50 thousand orders, and within a few hours the entire year’s production was sold out. An incredible and unexpected boom.
Even the CEO of Xiaomi did not expect so many sales of the SU7, but the very interesting design, the affordable price and the excellent qualities convinced thousands of Chinese to place the order.
The SU7 is currently only available in China, has more than 100 thousand orders to process and precisely because of this “overcrowding” deliveries are going slowly. Initially, in fact, the company had expected a delivery between the end of April and the beginning of May 2024, but now Xiaomi has specified that the waiting time is between 29 and 32 weeks, so between 7 and 8 months.
That’s why the head of the company, the charismatic Lei Jun, he declared somewhat surprisingly that everyone wanted a SU7 you would be better off looking elsewhere. Through the Chinese social network Weibothe CEO of Xiaomi recommended taking a look at the competition, even pointing out specific models.
For example, he mentioned the name of S7 by Luxeed, part of the Huawei group, but also of‘ET5 from Nio or P7 from Xpeng. These are therefore cars in direct competition with the SU7 and which Lei Jun evidently considers to be on par with his own car.
What is certain is that from these statements we clearly understand how Xiaomi will no longer accept new orders for several months, unless it manages to somehow increase production capacity by building a new plant or by relying on some external group. The manufacturer is trying to increase its capabilities, but at the moment there is nothing official in this regard even if it cannot be ruled out that some news in this sense could arrive in these days, on the occasion of the Beijing Auto Show which ends on May 4th.
