Leonardo’s Last Supper on display in the church of Melzo which hides its enigmas
Descriptive text here

One of the most fascinating and enigmatic places in Melzo is ready to open its doors to welcome visitors and introduce them a new Vincian mystery, a connection between the Tuscan genius and the church of Sant’Andrea.

Sant’Andrea and the Cenacle

On Sunday 28 April 2024, at 11am, the copy of the Leonardo’s Last Supper created by the painter from Crema will be presented for the first time Sergio Ughi. A painting that goes hand in hand with the Annunciation positioned on the opposite wall of the church. These are two reproductions of the paintings created by Leonardo Da Vinci which, in addition to the purely aesthetic aspect, fit perfectly into the setting of Sant’Andrea and the mysteries hidden within it.

“One of you will betray me”

“One of you will betray me”, this is the title given to the Melze installation of the Last Supper. A reminder of the Gospel and the phrase pronounced by Jesus before the apostles, but also an analogy with the enigma which sees the city of Melzo as the stage for its unfolding.

The reference is to the conspiracy that led to the death of Galeazzo Maria SforzaDuke of Milan, assassinated by Giò “Andrea” Da Lampugnano on behalf of his brother and successor of the Sforza house Ludovico Il Moro.

Another enigma hidden in Melzo

Already the discovery of a skull, whose identity could be that of the Milanese duke, and the presence in Melzo of Countess Lucia Marliano, a woman loved by Sforza, suggest to the Melzo “detectives” that Galeazzo may have been buried in the church of Sant’Andrea. Another testimony to the proximity of the place to the figure of Leonardo, deeply linked to the Milanese dominus, so much so as to induce him not only to involve one of his students and dear friends such as Bernardino Zenale in frescoing the apse of the sanctuary, but perhaps to put hand to the paintings.

Da Vinci used to leave messages in his works and he also did so with the Last Supper, revealing the conspiracy against Galeazzo Sforza to the public.

explained the president of the Friends of Sant’Andrea Adriano Perosi. To discover the last Vincian mystery hidden in the church, all you have to do is visit on Sunday morning. Entrance is free and free.
