Just over two weeks before the European elections, a real earthquake shakes the sovereignist front. After the breakup of Marine Le Pen’s Rassemblement National and Matteo Salvini’s League with Alternative für Deutschland (AfD), the leadership of the far-right party decided to impose on its main candidate for the European elections, Maximilian Krah, a ban on any public appearance. The agency made this known Dpa, citing a spokesperson for the political force. The announcement came after the words of MEP Krah, candidate of the Identity and Democracy political group of the European Parliament for the position of president of the EU Commission, who last Saturday in an interview with the Republic he did not distance himself from the Nazi SS: “It is wrong to generalize, not all members of the SS were war criminals”, the words of the AfD politician. Krah himself, who had already been removed from party videos and posters after the arrest of one of his collaborators on suspicion of espionage for China, announced on X that he is giving up further electoral appearances and is leaving the presidency. «I recognize that my statements are being used as a pretext to damage our party. The last thing we need right now is a debate about me. The AfD must maintain its unity. For this reason I renounce any further participation in the electoral campaign and resign from the position of member of the federal management”, we read on social media.

Meanwhile, the AfD leadership, the German press agency reports, has expressed the desire to continue cooperation with the Rassemblement National within the Id group, where the League also sits which today, through party leader Salvini , made it known that he had “nothing to do with certain nostalgias”. “We don’t look at the past, I look at the future, but some declarations by those nostalgic for Nazism or Communism are out of this world,” the Italian deputy prime minister told Radio 1. Sources within the group of European sovereignists announced yesterday that ID is also considering the expulsion of the far-right party. “This time the AfD has crossed the line”, explained the leadership, confirming their closeness with the positions expressed by the French party. But the games will come to life only after the vote. And the one caused by Le Pen is but one of the first moves that could upset the community political balance.
