Putin, the parade and the threats: «Nuclear warheads ready»

In the presence of their supreme leader, the armed forces yesterday gave life to the ritual Victory parade on Red Square; for the first time, after several years, at times under heavy snow. Almost as if to remember the parade that was held in November 1941 (the Leninist revolution was being celebrated at the time) in front of Stalin, with the troops then continuing directly towards the front, located at the gates of Moscow. The war that the Soviet Union won together with the Allies in 1945 it is still a fundamental reference for millions of citizens of the former USSR who lost at least 27 million compatriots. And since what is called a “special operation” began in Ukraine, Putin never misses an opportunity to cite alleged parallels between the battle then and the current one. Which for him is always against the “Nazis”, given that he continues to repeat that the Jewish Volodymyr Zelensky’s regime is a puppet regime operated by alleged extremist lobbies.

The parade this time was on a decidedly small scale. Units on foot passed in front of Vladimir Vladimirovich, including a group of soldiers engaged in Ukraine and then armored vehicles, tanks and missile launchers. In total 61 vehicles, while three years ago 197 passed over the pavement of the square. Just fifteen planes zoomed across the sky (75 in 2021), including 6 Sukhoi 25 fighter-bombers that left the classic tricolor trail. However, the new weapons that have been talked about a lot, such as the “Armata” tank or the “Koalitsiya” howitzer, were not seen.

Also the head of state limited himself to a short speech which, like his inauguration two days earlier, opened with a tribute “to the heroes of the special operation”.

Putin has accused what he calls the collective West of trying to hold back in every way the development of Russiaof wanting to influence and almost subdue it.

His country, he added, today «will do everything to prevent a global conflict. But at the same time we will not allow anyone to threaten us. Our strategic forces are always ready for combat”, he warned, referring to the units that control atomic devices.

He then deplored the fact that in many European countries they are trying, in his opinion, of «distorting the truth about the Second World War», belittling or erasing the role played by the Soviet Union in defeating Hitler’s troops. “They demolish the memorials of the true fighters against Nazism, they put traitors and accomplices of the Hitlerites on pedestals,” he continued, referring to those nationalists who, hoping to free themselves from Stalin’s yoke, they did not hesitate to ally themselves with the invading Germans. And who then, at least in part, assisted the SS in the horrendous massacres carried out in the occupied territories. In the first three years after the German attack, the USSR resisted practically alone. But Russia, the head of the Kremlin recalled, “has never diminished the importance of the second front and the help of the Allies”. Fabrizio Dragosei
