Since April 28, Instagram has decided to obscure content that deals with political-social issues. A choice that has enormous implications for those who provide information and for all citizens who want to inform themselves freely.

With one click, the platform Mark Zuckerberg changed the default settings of all profiles without asking users for consent and without notifying them via notification.

However, there is a way to deactivate this gag and return to receiving political and social content. Here’s how to do it.

1. Open settings
Go to your personal profile and click on the menu icon at the top right (the three lines). A further curtain may open, in which case click on “Settings and privacy”.

2. Look for the suggested content settings
In the search bar, type “Suggested contents” and click on the result. Alternatively you can scroll on the screen to the “What you see” section under which the “Suggested contents” item appears.

3. Content of a political nature
Select the “Political content” item, it should be the fifth on the list.

4. Restore the political-social contents
Select the “Don’t limit political content from people you don’t follow” option. Done! Now you will return to seeing posts that deal with politics, economics and social criticism as before. You can exit settings and resume browsing.

If you have followed all the steps you will now start to see posts that deal with politics, economics and social criticism, but until the majority of users do the same operation the news from Il Fatto Quotidiano will remain obscured. Fortunately there is an easy way to help us spread our articles and thus circumvent the restrictions: share posts in stories. Since we can no longer rely on automatic distribution, we have to start using word of mouth again. Therefore, when you read a post from Fatto Quotidiano on Instagram remember to share it in your stories.

We defend everyone’s freedom to inform and inform themselves against any type of censorship, whether political or technological.
