«The Russians used cluster bombs to kill as many civilians as possible»

In Monday’s attack launched by the Russians on Odessa, mounted cluster bombs were used on an Iskander missile. This was reported by the Ukrainian Prosecutor’s Office, according to which it is “an indiscriminate weapon that can cause many victims among the civilian population”. Fragments of these devices were found within a 1.5 kilometer radius of the impact site. Cluster bombs are prohibited by international conventions and it is the first time that the use of this weapon mounted on an Iskander missile has been observed. “We have reason to believe that the decision to use such weapons was made deliberately by officers of the Russian Armed Forces to kill as many Ukrainian civilians as possible,” prosecutor Andriy Kostin said.

The Ukrainian prosecutor’s office attached a video to the complaint note, in which multiple explosions caused by the Iskander can be seen, which caused the death of five people and injured 30 others. This was also confirmed by Dmytro Pletenchuk, spokesman for the Southern Command. The images released by the Ukrainian authorities show the explosion of the cluster bombs on the coast of Odessa, near the “Harry Potter Castle”, as it is called by residents, home to the city’s legal academy, whose roof then caught fire.
