Nika’s disappearance

It emerges from a “highly confidential” document leaked by the same security forces that she had seen BBC. British TV has been verifying the document for months, which also names the assassins and commanders who covered up the case. The government had claimed that she had killed herself, but her family said her death had been caused by the agents. “Nika was taken to a security van, one of her men molested her while he was sitting on her. The girl reacted, she was beaten with truncheons.”

Shortly before disappearing, Nika was captured on video on the evening of September 20, 2022 near Laleh Park, in central Tehran, standing on a dumpster while setting her hijab on fire. Others around her shouted “death to the dictator,” referring to Iran’s supreme leader, the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. From the document it turns out that Nika was observed that day by the police, by Team 12, who considered her one of the leaders of the protest due to her attitude.

Nika Shakarami has become a symbol of protests and women’s struggle in Iran, her name being shouted during demonstrations against the country’s strict rules on compulsory veiling. The teenager’s family found her body in a morgue nine days after she went missing.
