In the same hours as the raid, the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, met with the secretary general of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, in Kiev, with the thought of the Alliance summit scheduled for July in Washington: «It could become a moment of strength for the Alliance , or not. It is here that it will be decided whether an enemy of the Alliance will be able to prohibit the strengthening of NATO.” Ukraine, urged the Ukrainian number one, “deserves to be invited to NATO”. “We deserve it for our strength, our defense of common values and our importance for the future of the entire Euro-Atlantic community,” Zelensky insisted in statements released by the presidency. Alongside Zelensky, Stoltenberg recognized that “the right place for Ukraine is in NATO”, but also underlined that for the country to become a member of the alliance “all allies need to agree” and said he do not expect to «reach this agreement by the July summit».
