The condemnation of Harvey Weinstein for sexual crimes was revoked by American Supreme Court. The decision is linked to the fact that the judge heading the trial, explains the court, in February 2020 sentenced the former producer to 23 years in prison however, making a mistake by calling to testify women whose accusations were not part of the indictments against the former producer. This is an element that invalidated the entire process. No release from prison in sight, however, for Weinstein who was later convicted in 2022 rape to another 16 years in prison a Los Angeles.

Now it’s up to the New York attorney, Alvin Braggdecide whether to go back to putting the former boss of Miramax again indicted. The New York Court’s decision was made four to three by a panel of judges made up of a majority of women.

The testimonies taken into consideration by the Supreme Court are those of Lauren Young and two other women, Dawn Dunning And Tarale Wulffwho testified about their meetings with Weinstein under a state law that authorizes depositions about “previous misdeeds” to demonstrate a pattern of bad behavior on the part of the defendant. Today the Court ruled that “in our justice system the accused has the right to answer only for the crime for which he has been indicted.”

Over one hundred women accused Weinstein of sexual crimes in 2018, and their collective stories were the cornerstone on which the movement was founded .
