AGI – The military base in central Iraq which hosts Army troops and former pro-Iranian paramilitaries from Hachd al-Chaabi, integrated into the regular forces, was bombed during the night between Friday and Saturday. Sources from the Army and the Ministry of the Interior have so far been unable to provide information on who was responsible for the action that targeted the base, nor have they said whether it was “a drone attack”. The first toll would be “one dead and eight injured”.

The raid targeted the Kalsu base, on the outskirts of the city of Babel, about 80 kilometers south of Baghdad, which in addition to Popular Multitude fighters, hosts Iraqi soldiers and police.
“There are explosions in the warehouses that house the equipment following the bombings”, explain the same sources: “A fire is devastating some sectors and the search for the wounded continues. The bombing hit equipment, weapons, vehicles”. The action, which was not immediately claimed, is part of an explosive regional context, fueled by the war in Gaza which pits Israel against the Palestinian Islamic movement Hamas, each supported by regional or international allies.
The US and Israel deny any involvement
The United States “did not conduct airstrikes in Iraq today.” This is what the Pentagon assures with reference to the bombing of a military base south of Baghdad. “The United States did not conduct air strikes in Iraq today”, states the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) on “X”, underlining that the reports that American forces had carried out a raid “are not true”. Israel was also not involved in the explosions that occurred in Iraq on Friday night, an Israeli official told CNN
