The attack occurred in the early afternoon of Thursday 18 April. The 11-year-old girl was injured in front of the school, the other was shot in a nearby square. Both reported superficial wounds and therefore their lives are not in danger.
Girl dies of cardiac arrest
A’teenager Of 14 yearsa student at a nearby middle school, was hospitalized in serious condition after suffering a cardiac arrest during the confinement period imposed as a security measure immediately after the alarm.
The very young one is dead on the morning of April 19th. The prosecutor’s office has announced that investigations will be conducted to clarify the contours of the tragedy and to understand whether there could be a direct connection with the attack that occurred in Souffelweyersheim.
Who is the attacker
The author of the gesture is a clean record which would be affected by “mental fragility”, as the police stated. At the moment it seems that the facts are not connected to one radicalisation. When he was arrested he no longer had the weapon with him and offered minimal resistance.
According to gendarmerie sources, reported by Le Figarothe attacker suffers from psychiatric problems and they are in his past Three precedents stays in mental health facilities. The man, it is revealed, had attempted suicide in 2022. He had disappeared the night before the attack.
A witness’s story

The mayor’s comment
Souffelweyersheim is a small village of just over 8,000 inhabitants where life flows slowly and far from the hustle and bustle of big cities.
“All the mayors, all the colleagues, think that it cannot or should not happen to them. I thought so too, but you see, we are not immune to anything,” he said Pierre Perrinmayor of Souffelweyersheim.
