Biden, in the company of first lady Jill, invited Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and his wife to the White House, as part of a meeting during which the two countries agreed on further consolidation of their relationship to deal with new tensions geopolitics caused in the East by China’s excessive power and by fears relating to the development of the missile and nuclear programs by North Korea.
But what catalyzed attention on the web and on social networks, especially among voters and American citizens, was yet another disturbing blatant gesture by President Biden. Making way for his two guests to take their seats at the point where the ritual photos would be taken, Biden extended his right arm, indicating the exact spot with his hand. And so far nothing strange, except that that hand remained rigid in the same position even when the state leaders and their respective wives descended the steps to reach the pre-established point. And that singular position was maintained even as the four exited the room accompanied by music.
The president’s stiff hand has fueled suspicions among those who believe that someone in the White House is trying, however with difficulty, to hide the precarious health conditions of the head of state, not forgetting the now famous episodes of the attempt to tighten hand to nothing or the one in which a disoriented Biden, after giving a speech, looks around looking for someone who isn’t actually there.
