The FBI has arrested an 18-year-old ISIS sympathizer in Idaho

The FBI arrested in Idaho (United States) an eighteen year old supporter ofIsis accused of having masterminded a terroristic attack against a church. Plan that was not implemented due to the intervention of the feds.

Alexander Mercury was accused on Saturday 6 April of having supplied material support to a foreign terrorist organization.

Investigators claim that Mercury stood for attack at least one church in his area on April 7 – a Sunday – with guns, knives and flammable chemicalsbut they said they foiled his plans before he could carry them out.

Mercurio was framed thanks to an FBI source, according to whom the 18-year-old, as he himself said, would have “stopped near the church, would equip the weapons and would storm the faithful, killing as many people as possible.”

According to investigators, his goal was to carry out a act of martyrdom before the end of Ramadan and thus swear allegiance to the Islamist terrorist organization ofIsis.

His plan also included the use of chemical substances. The FBI performed a search warrant at his family’s home and arrested Mercurio on Saturday 6 April, one day before the attack, fortunately foiled by the FBI.

Investigators seized a metal tubebutane, hand sanitizera machete and several firearms locked in his father’s closet.

“The defendant took an oath of allegiance to ISIS and has planned to launch an attack in his name to the churches of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho“said the attorney general Merrick Garland in a statement announcing Mercruio’s arrest.

“Thanks to the FBI’s investigative efforts, the defendant was taken into custody before he could act.” In recent days, the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security have issued a bulletin to law enforcement agencies across the country warning of “possible threats to public meetings in the United States by threat actors.”
