Rome, ISIS terrorist arrested: he was a fugitive

The Police arrested Ilkhomi Sayrakhmonzoda, 32 years old, a citizen of Tajikistan this morning hit by an international arrest warrant for extradition purposes “for having joined the ranks of the Islamic State and having gone to Syria to fight in 2014”. The 32 year old appears to be an “active member of the terrorist organization ISIS”. The fugitive, characterized by numerous aliases with different nationalities and dates of birth, in particular from the states of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Ukraine, he was arrested this morning at Fiumicino airport, having just disembarked from a flight from Eindhoven (the Netherlands). at 11.45am.

The operation, carried out by the Capitoline Digos with the coordination of the Central Directorate of the Prevention Police and the contribution of the Fiumicino Border Police, is part of a broader scenario of wide-ranging preventive activities conducted by the Police and the Digos of Rome, in consideration of the extreme delicacy of the current international scenario.

“The arrest of a citizen of Tajikistan which took place today thanks to the activity of the State Police represents a very important result, the fruit of the effective prevention activity carried out by our apparatus on the national territory to counter the terrorist threat”, declared the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, who added: “This arrest confirms the fruitful cooperation with the police forces of other countries. In fact, with our international partners there is a constant sharing of both the information assets and the operational strategies to effectively deal with risk profiles”.

The owner of the Interior Ministry expressed his appreciation for the important operation to the Chief of Police, Vittorio Pisani, asking him to extend it to the personnel of the Prevention Police, the Fiumicino Border Police and the Digos of the Rome Police Headquarters.

“Congratulations to the police commissioner of Rome, to all the agents of the Capitoline Digos, to the Central Directorate of the Prevention Police and to the Border Police of Fiumicino who made the arrest of the fugitive from Tajikistan active in ISIS possible. The arrest of this criminal occurred following a complicated and very laborious investigation, carried out over the last few months thanks to the expertise of Italian agents in the field of international terrorism”. He states this in a note Domenico Pianese, general secretary of the Coisp police union.

”The prevention strategy and control activities implemented at multiple levels by our law enforcement agencies, in fact, allow us to constantly and scrupulously monitor the Islamic cells present in our country and any other extremist movement aiming to carry out terrorist actions – he adds – Our most sincere thanks go to these women and men”.
