In addition to the traditional end-of-year concert with countdown broadcast on Rai 1 with “The Year to Come” and Canale 5 with “New Year’s Eve in Music”, this evening, Wednesday 31 December 2025several films will be broadcast on TV. Let’s discover the complete program for New Year’s Eve.
Lady and the Tramp on Rai 2
At 9.20pm on Rai 2 one of the most beloved classics of the time is broadcast Disneywhich tells the story of the encounter between two opposite worlds: the reassuring and bourgeois one of Lilli, a cocker spaniel accustomed to attention and domestic security, and the free and stray one of Biagio, a shrewd and generous street dog.
Their bond is born when Lilli feels left aside by the arrival of a child in the family and decides to explore what exists beyond her protected garden. Through adventures, dangers and unforgettable moments, the film addresses universal themes such as social differences, the value of freedom, loyalty and acceptance of others. First Disney feature film told almost entirely from the point of view of dogs.
Horse fever on La7
At 9.10pm a true cult is broadcast on La7. “Horse Fever” is the comedy that was able to tell like few others the obsession with gambling and the illusion of easy winning. Directed by Steno in 1976, it follows the misadventures of three Roman friends who share a passion for horse racing betting, a passion that leads them to get into debt and continually devise unlikely expedients to raise money. Set in a lively and cartoonish Rome, the film thrives above all on the performances of Gigi Proietti and Enrico Montesano, flanked by a cast of memorable character actors. Initially met with lukewarm success, it was rediscovered over time thanks to television reruns, becoming a point of reference for the Italian comedy of the Seventies.
ET – The extraterrestrial on Italia 1
A timeless classic that always moves. At 9.15pm on Italia1 “ET – The extraterrestrial” is broadcast which tells the story of a small alien who accidentally remained on Earth and of the deep bond that arises with Elliott, a lonely and sensitive child. While adults and institutions hunt the “different” being, the kids choose to protect him and help him return home, giving life to an unforgettable adventure. Directed by Steven Spielberg, the film is one of the greatest commercial and critical successes in the history of cinema, but above all a modern fable about the need for understanding and the importance of feelings. Carlo Rambaldi’s design made ET a universal pop icon, but it is Spielberg’s gaze that turns the film into an ageless work, capable of speaking to different generations.
New Cinema Paradiso on Rai Movie
Love for cinema, nostalgia for a film celebrated in Italy and around the world. “Nuovo Cinema Paradiso”, at 9.10pm on Rai Movie, follows the life of Salvatore, known as Totò, from his childhood in a small post-war Sicilian town to his success as an established director. At the center of the story is the town’s cinema, the only place of collective leisure, and the relationship between Totò and Alfredo, the old projectionist who becomes a guide and a father figure for him. Through a long flashback, Giuseppe Tornatore builds a story that speaks of cultivated and abandoned dreams, of necessary departures and of bonds that resist time. Salvatore’s return to the town, after Alfredo’s death, is a comparison with what has been and what can no longer be. Awarded with an Oscar and numerous international awards, Giuseppe Tornatore’s film makes memory a shared emotion.
