how it works, the rules, bonuses (and penalties)

If you haven’t yet digested the defeat of the last Fantasanremo, the parallel and social competition to the singing competition, you have until 7pm this evening, Tuesday 7 May, to create a team at Fantaeurovision. After the success of the competition led by Baudi, in fact, we start again with the now famous bonuses and penalties assigned to the performances of the singers competing in the Eurovision Song Contest. And with the daily wait for the final post-event ranking (starting with the semi-finals on Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th, while the final will be on Saturday 11th May). Here is a guide on the rules to follow, for those who want to have fun creating their own team of artists.

How to register for Fantaeurovision

First of all, you need to create your own team by registering on the fantaeurovision.com website. Here are all the rules, the answers to the most frequently asked questions and the singers’ quotes. Once you have created your account, you move on to forming the team: each player has 100 ABBAudi at its disposal (which are the virtual coins of the game, the ones that for the fantasy world were the Baudi) to purchase 5 of the competing artists, each with its own assessment. “Our” Angelina Mango, winner of Sanremo 2024, was rated 23 ABBAudi, for example. Each team must also have a captain, among the five selected. Once the name has been given to the team, here’s how to try to win the glory, destined for the first place after the final on Saturday 11 May (because let’s remember that Fantaeurovision is a competition “without wallet”in which there are no prizes).

The rules

The first rule is that a team is considered part of the competition if registered before 7.00 pm on May 7th (unless extended, of which we will keep you updated). Regarding bonuses and malusi.e. the points added or subtracted from singers, «their assignment applies starting from the first minute of the Eurovision Song Contest until the end of the live broadcast of the final evening». The bonuses and penalties of the captain of each team are then automatically doubled. For any uncertainties in the assignments “the final word will be up to the FIF” (Italian Fantaeurovision Federation), which will evaluate the incident in a professional, unconditional and objective way.” What if a singer can’t perform? His performance, even if recorded, will be treated like a live one.

All bonuses, from crowns to unconsciousness

But let’s get to the main (and most fun) part of the game, namely the bonuses (actions that give extra points) and malus (actions that take points away from the team). As for Sanremo, they do not only relate to the competing singers, but to the entire performance, therefore dancers and choristers. Among the artists’ bonuses we highlight the «Dancing Queen: wear crown or tiara (if the dancers wear it the bonus doubles)”, then “flames, sparks and/or fireworks” and the artist who expressly says the word «FantaEurovision» during the performance or interviews.
As regards the bonuses of musicians, choristers, dancers and/or performers, there are 10 more points for “transformism (quick-change of the outfit)”, and the “loss of consciousness” listed at 50 points.

And the penalties, from falls to total black outfits

As regards the points deducted from the teams, they start from -5 for “total black outfit (excluding accessories/gadgets/finishes)” up to -66.6 for swearing. Among the actions subject to malus, there are accidental falls (both of the artist himself and of the microphone stand), up to technical problems which cause the song or bow tie to be interrupted. Even the artist who “uses a pre-recorded performance because he cannot perform in person” will be deducted by 50 points, but only once for each artist, the FIF specified.

Then there are the scores assigned at the end of each evening regarding the ranking position. They range from 25 more points for the first place to 5 assigned to the third. To find out what your team’s position in the standings will be, you will have to wait until the morning after the live evening, when the assigned scores are released.
