Chaos at Rai after the release of an internal email allegedly spoiled Angelina Mango’s performance at the next Eurovision Song Contest. A violation of cyber security has been “absolutely ruled out”, but “we have checks underway and we don’t know why this spoiler occurred. We asked internally to take action, the Eurovision leaders were involved.” The director of Rai Radio2, Simona Sala, says this, answering journalists’ questions regarding the spoiler on Angelina Mango’s performance at the Eurovision Song Contest after the diffusion of an internal email which reveals some details of the artist’s performance on the stage of Malmo: the singer-songwriter was not present but there was a stunt double on stage. «It was impossible to block the thing on social media – Sala continues -. In reality they are stunt doubles, but there were actually elements that were revealed.”

The gravity

Claudio Fasulo, deputy director of prime time entertainment for Rai and responsible for Italian shipping, also intervenes in the case: «It’s not something comparable to the release of an unreleased song in Sanremo – he underlines -. It has no artistic value comparable to what we will see on stage. Of course, however – he observes – this is something that shouldn’t happen. It was an email for internal use that had eight recipients.” According to the Rai deputy director, this is “a very serious thing that must not happen because it should have been a document that remains among the experts”. Finally, the invitation from the host Gabriele Corsi to avoid risks: «I invite everyone not to repost these images. I understand that we live in the social era, but if possible, delete these images”, he urges.

The cut of the song

Unintentional spoilers aside, some previews were purposely leaked: Mango, in accordance with the regulations, had to cut her song “La Noia” by 8 seconds. The song, in the version currently in radio rotation and available on streaming platforms, lasts 3 minutes and 8 seconds. While at Eurovision the songs cannot exceed 3 minutes. Thus – by comparing the text recorded on the Eurovision website with the one currently listenable – we discover that the cut of a few seconds fell on the doubling of the phrase: «It’s the cumbia of boredom / It’s the cumbia of boredom / Total» at the end of the second verse . The phrase is spoken only once, instead of twice. That’s all. A modification that will therefore leave the piece substantially unchanged.
