The 35th season of The Simpsons, currently airing in the United States, has given a nasty surprise to longtime fans of the series, with the sensational farewell to one of the show’s historical characters. If you don’t want spoilers regarding his identity, we invite you not to continue reading the article.

We are talking about a regular (and silent) customer of Boe’s tavern. The character leaves The Simpsons 35 years after his debut on the small screen: in fact, this figure appeared for the first time in the 1989 pilot episode. He is Larry The Barfly.

During the 765th episode of the television series, broadcast on April 21st with the title “Cremains of the day”, we finally find out Larry’s full name – Lawrence Dalrymple – and other never-before-seen details about his story, including his deep love of fishing. During the episode (number 15 of season 35), Homer Simpson and friends Larry, Carl and Moe actually feel guilty for knowing so little about their drinking buddy, who died inside the bar. The four then decide to celebrate him, going to Serenity Falls to spread his ashes. As we know, we will have to wait a little longer to see this episode on our screens: in all likelihood, season 35 of The Simpsons will arrive in Italy only in autumn.

Larry The Barfly is one of the characters voiced by Harry Shearer, historic voice actor of the series: Ned Flanders, Burns, Reverend Lovejoy and Principal Skinner are just some of the characters he lent (and continues to lend) his voice. We conclude by leaving you with our review of season 34 of The Simpsons: the series is available on Disney+.
