The world of television is mourning a serious loss today, Pat Finn, a prolific actor and comedian known to the general public for his roles in iconic series such as Friends and The Middle, died on Monday 22 December at his home in Los Angeles after a long battle with cancer, the actor was 60 years old.
The news was broken by his family, who in a statement remembered the actor with words full of affection: “After a wonderful life full of laughter, love, family and friends, we share the heartbreaking news of Pat Finn’s death.” The passing was also confirmed by his manager, Andrea Pett-Joseph, who described Finn as “the kindest and most joyful person ever”, underlining that the actor passed away surrounded by the love of his family and closest friends.
Finn was diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2022 and after an initial remission, the disease unfortunately recurred in a metastatic form. In recent months, friends and colleagues had started a fundraiser on GoFundMe to support the family with medical expenses, managing to raise over 118,000 dollars.
Born in Evanston, Illinois, on July 31, 1965, Pat Finn trained artistically in Chicago, joining the famous comedy companies Second City and iO after graduating from Marquette University in 1987, where he also formed a deep friendship with Chris Farley, future legend of Saturday Night Live. His television career took off in the mid-1990s thanks to recurring roles on The George Wendt Show and Murphy Brown.
Over the years, Finn has become a familiar face on the small screen, with appearances in numerous hit series: That ’70s Show, The King of Queens, Third Rock From the Sun, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Goldbergs and 2 Broke Girls, to name a fewAnd. In Friends he played Dr. Roger in two episodeswhile in Ed he played Jim Frost for eight episodes between 2001 and 2002.
The role that has made him particularly loved by more recent audiences, however, remains that of Bill Norwood, the kind and somewhat naive neighbor of the Hecks in The Middle, played in 23 episodes between 2011 and 2018. Pat Finn leaves behind his wife Donna, his children Cassidy, Caitlin and Ryan, his parents and numerous other family members. Our deepest condolences go to his family.
