Matteo Cazzola, 35 years old from Vicenza: this is the name of the victim of the avalanche that swept away a group of hikers on Mount Kavringtinden, in Norway, two days ago. In addition to him, the 25-year-old was involved in the accident Peter De Bernardinihospitalized in the intensive care unit of the Tromso hospital, the urban center of the northern coast of the Scandinavian state, and three other young people, who were fortunately only slightly injured or completely unharmed.
The whole party had left from the province of Vicenza together with the Cai group from Montecchio Maggiore. As L’Eco Vicentino explains, the avalanche survivors reassured their families about their health conditions. The cause of the tragic death of Cazzola and the bruises reported by another hiker could have been the impact on the trunks of a tree caused by the impetuous thrust of the avalanche. As for De Bernardini, he would be kept in a pharmacological coma and this morning one of the family members would have joined him in Norway.
Matteo Cazzola lived in Vicenza and was also very active as an animator in the parish: he would have turned 36 next summer, in August, and was a great lover of travel and the mountains. He worked at Pietro Fiorentini Spa in Arcugnano, he was a manager in the energy sector highly specialized in the use of hydrogen. He had traveled the world in his training and in the first years of his professional career, after his studies at the University of Padua, where he had a degree in Engineering. In his presentation, in addition to mentioning his boundless love for the mountains, he declared his interest and personal commitment to the current issue of climate change.
