The world of sport, and that of skiing in particular, is mourning the death of Elena Fanchini. The former skier died at the age of 37 from cancer. In 2018 she had managed to overcome the disease and get back on track, before definitively retiring from sporting activity in April 2020. In August the disease had returned and there was nothing that could be done for her.

Elena Fanchini died in her home in Solato, in the province of Brescia. The most important results of her career as a skier she had achieved in downhill racing.
In this specialty Elena Fanchini won silver at the World Championships in Bormio/Santa Caterina Valfurva in 2005 and first place in two races valid for the specialty World Cup.
