Claudio Villa died on February 7, 1987 for a heart attack at the age of 61 in the hospital of Padua, where he had been hospitalized for several days for heart surgery. The announcement of his death was given by Pippo Baudo live during the Sanremo Festival.

The artist’s grave is located in the cemetery of San Sebastiano in Rocca di Papa. This epitaph is written on his tombstone: “Life you are beautiful, death you suck“.

Claudio Villa fell in love with Patricia Baldi in 1973, when she was just 16 years old, and he married her on the Capitol on July 18, 1975. Their marriage caused a sensation as she was 31 years his junior. Despite the criticisms, however, the love between lasted until the singer’s death, and two daughters were born from their union, Andrea Celeste and Aurora.
In 2004, after a long judicial process, she was also recognized as the artist’s daughter Manuela Villa.
Biography
Raised in a family of humble origins, he won the first singing competition he entered with the song Guitar of his idol Carlo Buti. He made his first record in 1947 for the Parlophone label. In career since 1945, he established himself in 1955, signaling himself at the Sanremo Festival as a virtuosic popular tenor in a repertoire that combined Italian romance with Romanesque stornello and Neapolitan song. Defined the kingpin of the songhad vast popularity, even internationally, especially in the period from 1957 to 1968.
He was also occasionally an author, with 35 songs registered in his name. During his career he has sold 45 million records worldwide. Together with Domenico Modugno, he boasts the primacy of victories (four) at the Sanremo Festival: in 1955, with Buongiorno triste; in 1957 with Strings of my guitar; in 1962 with Addio… addio, paired with Modugno, and in 1967 with Non pensa a me. He also won the evening of independent authors, established out of competition on the occasion of the 1957 Festival, with Ondamarina.
