Turin, 1 July 2024 – Biniam Girmay, Eritrean cyclist of the Intermarché-Wanty team, took victory in the third stage of the Tour de France, the longest of this edition, covering 230.8 kilometers from Piacenza to Turin. Girmay triumphed in the sprint, demonstrating great determination and skill.

A Stage with Twists

The stage, characterized by an impressive distance, reserved various emotions. A fall two kilometers from the finish line altered the balance in the group that proceeded compactly towards the finish line. Fortunately, the accident did not cause serious consequences for the cyclists involved.

Yellow Jersey Change

The yellow jersey of race leader passed from the shoulders of the Slovenian Tadej Pogacar to those of the Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz (EF Education-EasyPost). Despite the change in leadership, the main contenders for the final victory remain close in the general classification, with the same time: Pogacar, the Danish Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) and the Belgian Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step).

Next Stop: The First Climbs

Tomorrow is the fourth stage, which will see the cyclists start from Pinerolo and arrive in Valloire, covering 139.6 kilometers. This stage will mark Italy’s farewell to the Tour de France and the entry into France, with the first real climbs of the race being tackled.
